Terms of Service

By accessing or using LawScout.co.za ("the Platform"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not use the Platform.

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and LawScout (Pty) Ltd, a company registered in the Republic of South Africa.

LawScout provides the following services:

• A searchable directory of legal professionals in South Africa
• Attorney profile pages with reviews and credentials
• Consultation request and messaging functionality
• Legal job listings and career resources
• Premium listing and advertising services for attorneys

LawScout is a directory and connection platform. We do not provide legal advice, and the presence of an attorney on our platform does not constitute an endorsement of their services.

To access certain features, you must create an account. You agree to:

• Provide accurate and complete registration information
• Maintain the security of your account credentials
• Notify us immediately of any unauthorised access to your account
• Accept responsibility for all activities under your account

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or engage in fraudulent activity.

Certain services on LawScout require payment, including premium attorney listings and job postings. By purchasing a paid service, you agree to:

• Pay all fees as described at the time of purchase
• Provide valid payment information through our secure payment processor
• Accept that subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled before the renewal date

All prices are in South African Rand (ZAR) and include VAT where applicable. Refunds are handled in accordance with the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008.

All content, design, code, and branding on LawScout is owned by LawScout (Pty) Ltd or its licensors and is protected by South African intellectual property laws.

You may not:

• Copy, reproduce, or distribute any content from the Platform without permission
• Use automated tools to scrape or extract data from the Platform
• Use the LawScout name, logo, or branding without written consent

Content you submit (reviews, profile information) remains yours, but you grant LawScout a non-exclusive licence to display and distribute it on the Platform.

To the maximum extent permitted by South African law:

• LawScout is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind
• We do not guarantee the accuracy of attorney information or reviews
• We are not liable for any disputes between clients and attorneys
• Our total liability shall not exceed the fees paid by you in the 12 months preceding the claim

Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under South African law, including liability for fraud or gross negligence.

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of South Africa, specifically the High Court of South Africa, Gauteng Division, Johannesburg.

Applicable legislation includes but is not limited to:

• The Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002
• The Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008
• The Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013

Some attorney and law firm listings on LawScout are compiled from publicly available sources, including firm websites, the Legal Practice Council, and Google. This information is provided for general reference only.

LawScout does not warrant that directory information is accurate, complete, or current. Listings are not endorsements, and any listing may be updated or removed at any time.

If you are a listed attorney or law firm and would like your information corrected or removed, email legal@lawscout.co.za and we will action your request promptly.
